Getting Started in Aikido / Dojo Membership

We have two ways to get started for adults & teens: Take Aikido 101 at the beginning of any month and get a full taste of the art over a 4-week period, or become a dojo member anytime and enjoy our full schedule of classes and events. See below for a special introductory package that makes it really economical to start. Either way, the needs of beginners are fully met.

Aikido 101

Aikido 101 is a four-week introductory period where beginners are invited to join us on the mat for a taste of the art. Participants may upgrade to full membership any time to access the complete dojo schedule.

The entire 4-week session is only $99, and usually begins on the first Monday of each month. There is no registration fee, and a gi (training uniform) is not required.

What an easy way to get started! Enroll today.

Classes for adults (ages 13+) are offered weekday evenings, and on Saturday mornings. The program includes both empty-handed and sword/staff training.

Monthly dues for adults are $115. For one monthly rate, go to as many classes as we have scheduled for you during the week.

Family memberships (any two or more people in the same household) receive a $10/month discount for each additional person.

Morihei Ueshiba - O Sensei - The Founder of Aikido

"The Art of Peace begins with you. Work on yourself and your appointed task in the Art of Peace. Everyone has a spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here to realize your inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment."

I started training a bit after I started graduate school and realized I needed to implement some kind of exercise regimen for my health. Going to the gym really, really, did not appeal. I decided that I wanted to try something new and to push the limits of what I thought I could do – to expand my comfort zones a little.

Aikido is what I found after some research into the different types of martial art classes available in the area. I decided to give it a shot. I kept on training because it turned out to be a really good way to de-stress in between long hours in the laboratory – and because it's fun.

Observe a Class!

Visitors are welcome to come observe a class at any time. We recommend that you do so if you are considering joining the dojo.

There is shoe rack inside the door for your shoes, and two rows of chairs near the mat for guests.

Sensei or another instructor will be happy to answer any questions.

Aikido techniques are based in the classical Japanese martial arts of Daito-Ryu and Ju-Jitsu. Aikido is not for fighting, or about becoming a better fighter. We train to reduce our habitual reactivity to situations, to resolve conflict in a non-destructive, non-violent way. Aikido training is not about strength, force, or athleticism. It is available for all levels of fitness, all ages, and all body types. Aikido is a great activity for families, couples, and anyone wishing to develop as a more centered, grounded, freer person. We hope you will join us!
